| Attraction Info: | Local Attractions - Playa del Carmen The main building boom is at Playa del Carmen, and its swanky neighbor, Playacar. This once sleepy Caribbean outpost has become the resort hub of what is now Mexico's major tourist destination. Playa del Carmen has easy access to Cancun's airport and hosts daily cruise ship arrivals and ferry departures to Cozumel Island. Also in Playa del Carmen is the very popular 5th Avenue. One block away from the beach, this street is mostly pedestrian walkway, comprising International restaurants, sidewalk cafes, handicraft stores, dive shops and almost anything else a visitor could ask for. Swim with dolphins There are different places throughout the Riviera Maya that you can swim with dolphins, the closest is only 10 minutes away. Golf here are many different courses throughout the Riviera Maya to put on your plus fours, strut your funky on the green rug and practice your swing. Tulum Tulúm is the most visited of the Maya sites in the Yucatán Although the ruins are structurally less impressive than Chichén Itzá or Uxmal and much less extensive, they have the azure Caribbean as a backdrop. Coba Cobá is beautiful and mysterious - a visit here requires some effort but is very worthwhile. Its name means "ruffled waters", derived from the five lakes in the vicinity, and it is one of the oldest Mayan settlements on the peninsular. At 42 mts it also boasts the highest pyramid in the area. Chichen Itza The ruins of Chichén Itzá lie about midway between Cancún and Mérida. Chichén Itzá is the most visited site in the Yucatán and it can get very crowded here, so if at all possible try to arrive soon after the 8am opening. | Driving Directions: | - Directions: Cancun International Airport is 60 miles North. After leaving the Cancun airport turn right (South) onto highway 307 headed toward Tulum. After driving approximately 100 km (60 miles) you will see on your left the entrance to Akumal. Continue south, and about 2 km further you will see a sign on the right hand side that indicates "Las Villas Akumal". Turn left off the highway and continue until you see the facility. Las Villas Akumal offers airport shuttle for 80 US. Car rental is available at the airport, or can be arranged at our front desk.
